Breakups, Separation and Divorce are some of the most painful and devastating life experiences a person can go through.
On one hand, we ‘know’ it’s going to hurt when a relationship ends.
On the other hand… when you’re going through a painful separation… it feels like nothing you’ve ever known before. Even if you were the one who ended it, the shock and sense of loss can be staggering and frightening. And then there’s the guilts.
You can find yourself thrust out in wildly unfamiliar river waters, flailing, sinking, drowning in a mess of wild emotions and bodily reactions you didn’t even know were possible.
And it’s easy to get stuck there for a long, long time.
We all know people who do get stuck there, sometimes for half of their lifetime, getting more and more bitter as time goes on. Maybe, what they needed, was help.
I’m here to offer a life raft.
I specialise in counselling for breakups separation and divorce because I know for a fact that you can recover and heal after the suffering of separation. I can help you not only find ‘yourself’ again, but actually we can, together, create pathways towards greater happiness and contentment in specific you-shaped ways.
We explore your stories- your identity conclusions- through different lenses than just tossing the problems and the feelings over and over in the same ways, arriving at the same miserable places.
To arrive at different places (and dare I say it: better places for the rest of your life) we have to look at things a little differently.
We want to find lifelong resolutions for the pervasive ongoing problems invading your life, not just put a bandaid over them.
To do that we’re going to develop inner resources based on the skills you already have.
We can find richness in your stories and increase a sense of self-worth, reclaim your life from past experiences and toxic relationships holding you back, and figure out how to lean into the YOU who feels lighter and takes action with a sense of confidence and freedom.
I have 15 years of experience supporting and counselling folks in the most challenging of circumstances, and a Masters in Narrative Therapy alongside studies and qualifications in person-centred therapy, feminist therapy, mindfulness and somatic techniques, and trauma-informed practice.
We use practical and useful tools combined with your own knowledge of yourself and what’s happening to come up with positive strategies.
I can also help understand and get through such practical matters as:
- Talking to children about separation (including if there has been abuse)
- Understanding the mediation process
- Preparing emotionally for getting through court
- Creating potential for amicable discussion
Gently, warmly, inviting radical acceptance, challenges, occasional humour, and compassion on our life raft we can wade out of the water and onto dry land on the other side of the river.
Thats what counselling for breakups, separation and divorce can help you achieve.
I’d love to help you.
