Some thoughts to ponder and questions to ask yourself on the subject of escaping the big loud echoing voice that tells you ‘I’m a Failure’. A failure by whose standards?…
If you have some tips on getting out from under a shitty self narrative, or how you got away from society’s views of what makes a ‘good’ person, please do comment: I know people will love to hear your ideas. If you liked this video, you can see my others on my YouTube channel here. I write and talk on mental health subjects particularly for women (but relevant to many) regularly, so you can sign up here to get posts directly in your inbox, get your FREE Journal Prompt for Dedicated Imperfectionists as well as an invite to join a small group of folks in a closed Facebook group to discuss the joys and challenges of striving for Imperfection. In June we’ll begin the June Journaling challenge based on these prompts, so please join us! And as always, reach out here if you’re looking for an online counselling, don’t wait until you’re buried under.

Thanks Nicole for making this more than just about talking to yourself to change how you feel. Yes, we are all embedded in systems and these systems are not neutral; they have outcomes and sometimes these outcomes are not equivalent to ours. And, as you say, it can serve others for us to not feel good about ourselves. We are better informed – and more powerful – when we can see this for what it is.
This has also been my recent awakening. We are fulfilling the requirements of a system designed to meet the needs of a few. We buy into the system, because we are led to believe (choose to believe) that this is the way to live life. There is so little space for people who do not function well inside the system. So many labels handed out to justify the lives we live. So many ideas of what is normal and what is not. And so hard not to fall prey to feelings of failure when we are not able to fit into current ideas of normal behaviour.
It is a kind of modern day slavery. But it is all the more insidious because we actually believe we are free.
Thanks Nicole for sharing your thoughts on this. It is such an important conversation to be having.
